Why it is important to check your tyres?

No.1  Tyre Safety

Maintaining correct tyre pressure and tread depth with accurate equipment is vital to ensure your safety on the road. Under-inflated or over-inflated tyres, and tyres with a low tread depth affect handling and grip, potentially causing irregular or unpredictable vehicle behaviour, it is recommended to replace your tyres before the tread wears below 2mm.

Tyre Safety Statistics

No.2  Reduce CO2 Emissions

1.5 million tonnes of CO2 and 600000+ tyres are wasted in the UK every year due to tyre under-inflationMaintaining the correct tyre pressure with accurate equipment will optimise driving performance, resulting in reduced CO2 emissions.

No.3  It's the law

10 million = 1 in 4 tyres are illegal in the UK*The current law for the tread depth for cars, vans and LCV is to have a minimum depth of 1.6mm across the central three-quarters of the tyre and around the entire circumference.

Driving with worn tyres is a serious safety risk and can be costly too. In the UK if your tyre is below the legal limit, you could get a £2,500 fine plus three points on your licence, per tyre.

No.4  Reduce Costs

UK’s motorists are wasting between £600million and £1billion on unnecessary fuel bills by driving with underinflated tyresTyre inflation has a direct impact on load-bearing capacity and running costs when driving, using PCL products to maintain tyres ensures that cars, caravans and motorhomes can be loaded to the maximum limit, whilst reducing fuel consumption and extending tyre life.

What are the 3 tyre checks?

Three quarters of motorway incidents are caused by failure to carry out regular tyre checks*. Checking your tyres at least once a month and before long journeys using reliable and accurate tyre gauges can help keep you safe on the road and on the right side of the law. Checking your tyres only takes a few minute following these 3 simple steps.

Footpumps

PCL footpump in use

While the 12v Tyre Inflator is ideal for SUVs or inflating a tyre from flat, the traditional footpump is a great option to keep your car or motorcycle tyres topped up.

A fan of camping? Electric outlets aren’t always available at campsite, so a manual inflator may be needed. If you don’t have access to electric or your car, then you can rely on a footpump, though it will take longer than a 12v inflator.

Supplied with adaptors for airbeds, cycle valves and footballs, the PCL footpump is available with a single or double barrel.
