When did PCL start to manufacture the InstantAir?

After 60+ years of designing and manufacturing Couplings and Adaptors, PCL acquired the Broomwade coupling business in 2001 and began to manufacture the InstantAir range in our state-of-the-art factory.

The InstantAir Series joined PCL’s range which included the Airflow, VertexXF-Euro , 60 Series and 100 Series, and many more, all of which proudly carry the ‘Made in Sheffield’ mark of origin and quality.

What's the difference between the InstantAir and other PCL Couplings?

The distinctive difference between the InstantAir and the other couplings in PCL’s range, is that the InstantAir is a bayonet type fitting where two-handed operation is required to connect and disconnect the coupling and adaptor.

How does the InstantAir Coupling and Adaptor work?

To connect the coupling and adaptor, you need to push the adaptor into the coupling and rotate 45 degrees clockwise, this will lock the adaptor in place, protecting against accidental disconnection, this feature makes the InstantAir ideal for trailing hose applications.

To disconnect, push the adaptor towards the coupling and rotate 45 degrees anti-clockwise.

What options are available in the InstantAir range?

This unique coupling series features two sizes Standard and 1/2", both are available in a range of thread types and sizes.

The Standard InstantAir range offers a flow rate of 54 cfm @ 100 psi, and a layer of protection with its zinc or brass chrome plating. While, both types of plating provide increased strength, the brass chrome plating is more corrosive-resistant than it's zinc counterpart.

High temperature versions (up to 100°C) of the Standard InstantAir Coupling are available.

The Standard InstantAir range also features a Swivel Adaptor option which is recommended for tools or any other situation where rotation might be required for example to stop a kink forming in a hose, however, is not designed for continuous rotation.

The Standard InstantAir range also features a Safety Adaptor option, that features a choke which allows air to vent slowly when disconnected from coupling preventing hose whip. Read more on why safety couplings and adaptors are recommended

Ideal for heavy duty industrial application, the 1/2” InstantAir Series are larger in size compared the Standard and offer high flow characteristics up to 70 cfm @ 100 psi.

The couplings and adaptors from the two different sizes – Standard and 1/2" - are not interchangeable therefore cannot be connected together.

Over 22 years on since the acquirement of the Broomwade Couplings business, the InstantAir is still manufactured in PCL's Sheffield factory.
